Wickets off the last three balls of the Lancashire innings meant Farhan Ahmed picked up his maiden fifer in white-ball cricket. Despite a four-wicket win, however, Nottinghamshire could not make the quarter-finals cut in the Vitality Blast
Farhan returned figures of 5-25 in four overs, dislodging Lancashire captain Keaton Jennings and all-rounder Chris Green before returning to dismiss Luke Wood, Tom Aspinwall and Mitchell Stanley off the last three balls of the innings. Chasing a modest target, Notts found the going tough on a turning pitch as England left-arm spinner Tom Hartley took two wickets in the second over and the home team were reduced to 14 for 4 after 17 balls. But the in-form Tom Moores walked in and hit a superb 75 off 42 balls, getting to fifty off just 23 balls to guide his side to victory.
Notts got to the 127-run target in 15.2 overs, finishing their campaign with a win. Joe Clarke's side had a poor net run rate, going into this clash and their chances of advancing to the quarter-finals were merely academic.
The win over North Group toppers Lightning did not avert Nottinghamshire's third absence from the quarters in four seasons. Lancashire, on the other hand, had already sealed a place in the last eight stage ahead of this match.
