South Africa, playing their first match since winning the World Test Championship, looked in strong touch as they ended Day 1 of the first Test against Zimbabwe at 418/9 at Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo. Despite this being a non-WTC fixture and missing regular skipper Temba Bavuma due to injury, the Proteas -- led by stand-in captain Keshav Maharaj -- overcame early struggles. Zimbabwe’s Tanaka Chivanga wreaked havoc with four wickets. But debutant Lhuan-dre Pretorius stepped up with a brilliant century to anchor the innings. He was supported by Dewald Brevis, who scored a half-century, before Corbin Bosch capped the day with an unbeaten ton to push South Africa past the 400 mark.
