Benfica almost have the perfect reply, as Pavlidis' ball falls to Di Maria a few metres outside the box, and the Argentina shoots first time with his left foot, and it flies just above the bar.

After that whirlwind start, the game has settled down a little bit, with both teams looking to string some passes and work the ball into the box. Sporting are still attempting that odd through ball to catch the home side defence by surprise, but Otamendi and Silva are holding on at the moment.

Trincao almost had another effort from a free kick. Despite the acute angle, the ball spun and almost caught Trubin by surprise, but the goalkeeper kept it away from danger.

The Derby is flaring up, as a number of refereeing decisions have gone against Sporting CP in the early stage. A challenge on Goncalves by Otamendi in the box, which led to the Portuguese falling down in a heap, is played on by the referee without pointing to the spot, and Hjumland quickly gets booked for preventing Carreras from taking a quick free kick.

After a terrific chance for Benfica through Kokcu is cleared away by Silva in the box, the ball is crossed from the left flank by the Turkish midfielder to Di Maria on the right edge of the box, and the Argentine opts to shoot first time, and it's just over the bar. Despite having almost 45% of possession, Sporting are slightly on the backfoot before half-time, with most of the football being played in thier half of the pitch. Benfica are pushing forward at every chance, and the visitor's defence are going for some unspectacular but solid defence at the moment.

Just one minute of added time is played without any eventful play, and it's half-time in the Lisbon Derby with league-leaders Sporting leading, courtesy of Trincao's first-half goal.

It has been quite a physical game so far, with Otamendi lucky to be on the pitch after his challenge in the box on Goncalves was not deemed a foul by the referee. Meanwhile ,Debast had another lucky escape after his shirt pull on Otamendi is not given for a penalty either.

Quaresma was a bit enthusiastic in his challenge on Carreras, with the Spaniard rolling on top of him, possibly hurting him. He is fine, and play continues. Otamendi almost gives his team the lead with a header, but could not direct the ball towards Silva's goal.

From the goalkick, Benfica break forward, and Belotti shows off his face to run down the right edge of the box before cutting the ball in the box. Pavlidis shoots first time from the centre of the box, but his shot hits the right post and comes back agonisingly. Belotti is in shock.
