The players have lined up for the national anthem, and with that done, we're all set for kick-off.
We're underway! The referee blows the whistle and the match begins, and what a roar from the crowd.
Roberto Alvarado almost gives Mexico a dream start! He gets on the end of a loose ball right in the heart of the box, goes for it with his right foot, but it’s off target. A big chance goes begging just two minutes in.
Marcel Ruiz swings in a teasing cross from the flank, it had promise, but the defenders are alert and deal with it calmly. Mexico probing early, asking the right questions.
Anthony Lozano tries his luck from range with a left-footed strike, plenty of power, but not enough precision. It whistles past the post, and Mexico breathe a little easier. Honduras showing they’re not here to sit back.
Referee Juan Calderón isn't letting anything slide, he spots unsporting behaviour coming from the bench and reaches straight for his pocket. It's a yellow card, and it's none other than Guillermo Ochoa who gets booked. Even from the sidelines, El Tri’s veteran is making his presence felt.
That was never going to end well, Julian Martinez dives in hard trying to win the ball, but it's clumsy and late. Referee Juan Calderón sees it clearly and doesn't hesitate to blow the whistle. Los Catrachos walking a fine line here.
Luis Crisanto goes into the book. A mistimed challenge earns him a yellow, and now he’s walking on thin ice for the rest of the match. Los Catrachos can’t afford to go down a man this early.
Raúl Jiménez shows his class with a silky first touch to bring down a sharp pass inside the box. He pulls the trigger, aiming for the bottom-left corner, but a Honduras defender throws himself in the way and makes a crucial block. Top-tier defending to keep El Tri at bay.
Marcel Ruiz breaks through with a sharp run, latching onto a defence-splitting pass. He lets fly from a good distance, aiming for the bottom right, but Edrick Menjivar reads it all the way and gathers it with ease. Mexico knocking, but no breakthrough yet.
The fourth official signals six minutes of stoppage time. It's been a fiery opening half, and there's still time for one last twist before the break.
Romell Quioto gets on the end of a pass at the edge of the box and tries to make something happen, but his shot is blocked by the Mexican defence. Moments later, the whistle blows to end the first half, it's been lively, it's been intense, but we go into the break with the scoreline still 0-0.
The referee gets us going again with the score still deadlocked at 0-0. Honduras waste no time, Choco Lozano tries to scoop a clever ball over the defence into the box, but a Mexican defender steps in with a timely intervention to snuff out the danger.
What a finish! Raul Jimenez does what he does best, a sublime first touch to control a pinpoint pass at the edge of the box, and without hesitation, he rifles it low into the bottom left corner. Trademark strike, and Mexico lead 1-0. The breakthrough finally comes.
Mexico strike again! A loose ball falls kindly inside the box and Edson Alvarez is quickest to react, he pounces and hammers it low into the centre of the net. Right place, right time, and it’s 2-0 to El Tri. Honduras shell-shocked.
Just as Mexico were soaking in their second goal, referee Juan Calderón halts the celebrations and makes the VAR signal. He’s heading to the monitor, looks like it’s a check for offside in the build-up. Nervous moments for El Tri.
After a thorough VAR review, referee Juan Calderon rules the goal out for offside! The celebrations are cut short, and Edson Alvarez’s strike won’t count. The scoreboard stays at 1-0, and El Tri are visibly deflated. Honduras breathe a huge sigh of relief.
Johan Vasquez tries to unlock the defence with a clever chip into the box, aiming for a teammate’s run, but a Honduran defender reads it perfectly and leaps in to intercept. Sharp defending keeps El Tri from doubling the lead.
There’s a moment of chaos in the box as the ball strikes Dixon Ramirez, and it might have come off his hand. Mexican players immediately turn to the referee, appealing for a penalty. This could get interesting.
Luis Crisanto tries to burst forward and spark something for Los Catrachos, but a Mexican defender steps up and clears the danger without fuss. El Tri staying sharp at the back as the clock winds down.
The board goes up, seven minutes of stoppage time! Honduras still have a glimmer of hope, but Mexico will be desperate to see this out. Strap in for a tense finish.
The referee blows for the final time, and that's it. Mexico hold firm and book their spot in the final. El Tri march on.
