Brentford boss Keith Andrews has confirmed Yoane Wissa is attracting interest from other clubs and chose to skip the Bees' pre-season training camp in Portugal.

It has been a period of immense change at the Gtech Community Stadium, with Andrews promoted from his role as set-piece coach after Thomas Frank joined Tottenham.

Brentford have also sold goalkeeper Mark Flekken to Bayer Leverkusen, captain Christian Norgaard to Arsenal and last season's leading goalscorer, Bryan Mbeumo, to Manchester United.

Mbeumo hit 20 goals for the Bees last season, striking up a strong partnership with Wissa, who only managed one goal fewer in the Premier League.

Wissa's 19 strikes came from chances worth 18.6 expected goals (xG), and none of them were from the penalty spot, whereas Mbeumo netted five times from 12 yards.

Mohamed Salah (20) was the only player with more non-penalty Premier League goals than Wissa last season, and the 28-year-old's form has led to interest from elsewhere.

Newcastle United have reportedly had a £25m offer for Wissa rejected, with the Magpies in the market for attacking reinforcements even before Alexander Isak informed them of his desire to leave.

Andrews confirmed Wissa's absence from Brentford's pre-season camp in Portugal was due to that speculation on Saturday, though he expects him back in training next week.

"He has gone back to London. It was his decision, obviously because of speculation," Andrews told Brentford's media channels.

"There are clubs interested, and he felt it was the right thing to go back to London. It's simple, really, he folds back into the group next week when we come back to training."

Newcastle are not the only club to have made an offer for Wissa, with Brentford previously knocking back a £22m bid from Nottingham Forest in January.

Brentford drew 1-1 with Gil Vicente in their first pre-season friendly under Andrews on Friday, with QPR their next opponents on August 2.
