Filipino boxing legend Manny Pacquiao will end his four-year boxing hiatus to challenge reigning WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios in Las Vegas on Saturday, 19 July 2025. The 46-year-old fighter will step back into the boxing ring boasting a record of 62‑8‑2 in a career spanning eight weight divisions.

Pacquiao’s last professional bout was in August 2021 against Yordenis Ugas, where he lost via unanimous decision. His last win was back in 2019, defeating Keith Thurman. Since then, ‘Pacman’ announced his retirement to focus on his political career, but has continued playing exhibition matches, last appearing against Japanese kickboxer Rukiya Anpo.

The veteran fighter now has the chance to become boxing’s oldest world champion, surpassing the record of Bernard Hopkins, and has been training under Freddie Roach at Wild Card Gym.

His opponent, 30-year-old Mario Barrios, has a 29-2-1 record. The current WBC welterweight title holder is fresh off the back of a disappointing draw against Abel Ramos, and previously suffered losses against Thurman and Gervonta Davis.

The Texan boxer has the physical advantage over Pacquiao, standing at six feet tall with a 71-inch reach. Despite concerns over lapses in concentration and stamina, Barrios will be the favourite against his much older opponent.
