Vishnu Manchu's mythological drama, Kannappa, also starring Prabhas, Akshay Kumar, and Mohanlal in special cameo appearances, hit the screens today, June 27. The Mukesh Kumar Singh-directorial opened to mostly positive reviews from critics and audiences alike.
The reviews of Kannappa are out on X. Though many are disappointed with the first half of the film, the second half stunned the audiences. They called the last 15 to 20 minutes "spine-chilling", "spectacular" and "mind-blowing" and even compared to Rishab Shetty's Kantara. Netizens are all praise for Prabhas' entry in the film; they also hailed his performance. Vishnu Manchu who has played the titular role, is also lauded for his stellar act. Apart from the performances, the music, BGM, visuals, VFX and dialogues also received positive response.

About Kannappa
The film is based on Bhakta Kannappa, a follower of Lord Shiva. He was a hunter, a warrior, and an atheist, Thinnadu, who became one of Lord Shiva’s most ardent devotees. The movie shows him following the path of violence to protect his tribe, and how he became ‘Lord Shiva’s greatest devotee.’

Prabhas has played saint Rudra Pasupathi, Akshay plays Lord Shiva, Mohanlal is seen as tribal warrior Kirata, while Kajal Aggarwal plays Goddess Parvati.
Other notable actors includes R. Sarathkumar, Mohan Babu, Arpit Ranka, Brahmanandam, Brahmaji, Mukesh Rishi, Raghu Babu, Siva Balaji, Kaushal Manda, Rahul Madhav, Devaraj, and Preity Mukhundhan among others.
The pan-India film, which is reportedly made on a budget of Rs 200 crore, was released in Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada. It has been produced by Vishnu’s father, Mohan Babu’s 24 Frames Factory.
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) certified Kannappa with a U/A 13+ certificate. As per a report in Bollywood Hungama, the Revising Committee (RC) asked for several cuts, before passing the film. Makers were asked to delete and modify certain scenes that had blood, dead bodies, heads being cut off and close-up scenes of arrow piercings. There were also changes in a few dialogues, for e.g. a dialogue 'Okadikemo...Gopikalanta' was deleted, and words like 'Pilaka', 'Gilaka', 'Chavata', 'Veedu', 'Vadu' and 'Anubhavista were also modified.
