A man named Vikram died by suicide in Puducherry, leaving behind a note that blamed private moneylenders for his death. He said that he was being harassed to pay huge amounts of interest on a loan. The 33-year-old had borrowed Rs.3.8 lakhs. In his suicide note, he wrote that he was being forced to pay Rs.38,000 every single month just as interest, which is a 10% interest per month.

The victim's life took a tragic turn after an accident left him paralysed and unable to work. Before the accident, he supported his family by working at a chicken shop and running a small business. Once he was bedridden, he had no way to earn money and repay his debt, reported NDTV.

The man was a local member of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, a political party started by Tamil actor Vijay. In his final letter, he pleaded to  actor Vijay to take care of his wife and daughter.

According to police sources, Vikram left a suicide note naming several moneylenders who, he said, forced  him to take the extreme step. The letter mentions shocking instances of harassment and alleged exploitation, including a offensive demand by one moneylender, who allegedly told Vikram to send his wife and daughter to his house until the dues were cleared.

Reportedly, Police have started an investigation based on the suicide note, which named the moneylenders involved. So far, no arrests have been made. This sad event has caused anger and concern over the problem of illegal money lending, which traps many vulnerable families in debt.
