Bijay Chhetri: Manipur-born Becomes First IND To Sign Permanent Contract With South American Club

Bijay becomes only the second Indian to play in Latin America after Romeo Fernandes, who represented South American side Atletico Paranaense on loan back in 2015

Bijay Chhetri has become India's first-ever player to join a South American side on a permanent basis after signing a full-time contract with the Uruguyan side, Colon FC. (More Football 타이산카지노)

Colon Football Club are based out in Montevideo and compete in the Segunda Division Profesional (second division) of Uruguay. Bijay, 23, is defender by trade and had arrived on South American shores via on loan from Chennaiyin FC.

Bijay hails from Manipur and started off his footballing career with Shillong Lajong where he made his debut against Indian Arrows in 2018. Post then, he has played for Chennai City, Real Kashmir, Sreenidi Deccan and Chennaiyin FC.

“Some officials of Colon FC have also been really supportive of my growth since the day I arrived from Chennaiyin FC last year on a loan and subsequently earned a permanent transfer with the club in January. I would like to make a special mention to them,” Chhetri wrote on social media.

Bijay made his debut for Colon FC in November 2024 against La Luz. Bijay becomes only the second Indian to play in Latin America after Romeo Fernandes, who represented South American side Atlético Paranaense on loan back in 2015.

Speaking of the current season, Colon FC are occupying eight spot in the Uruguayan Segunda División Profesional.
