USA 0-0 GUA (0’)

Freeman did well to play the ball from the right flank, and it fell to de la Torre, who shot from outside the box. Navarro can only parry it back into the danger area, and Diego Luna, who never stopped his movement, was the first to reach the ball and poke it to the back of the net.

USA 1-0 GUA (4’)

Luna gets his third goal on a trot, and USA are looking unplayable at the moment. A great cross-field pass finds the midfielder, and he drops his shoulder to get past Pinto and Herrera to cut to his right foot. The Salt Lake attacker shoots a bullet strike that flies past Navarro.

USA 2-0 GUA (15’)

Guatemala are not down and out by any means, and are attacking with numbers despite having around 40% of ball possession. But they need at least one goal before half-time. Meanwhile, with USA not committing a lot of numbers going forward, Agyemang’s off-the-ball play is proving effective, winning a free-kick, which Berhalter put straight into the gloves of Navarro.

Mendez thought he had put Guatemala their first goal of the night with a good turn and shot, but replays show that he was a metre offside when the ball was floated into the box, and the flag goes up.

USA 2-0 GUA (29’)

A good cross-field ball finds Morales unmarked on the left flank, and the cross finds Mendez, but the forward is called back for a foul on the USA defenders. Guatemala are knocking on the American doors.

USA 2-0 GUA (37’)

A stunning free-kick from Berhalter from the edge of the box. Despite a deflection off the head of a Guatemalan defender, Navarro did well to adjust his body and keep the ball out at full stretch.

USA 2-0 GUA (44’)

Chris Richards earned himself the first yellow of the match for a late challenge, but other than that, the three minutes of added time passed without any big incident. Guatemala ended the half as the more attacking side, but can they break down the American defence in the second half?

The second half is underway at Energizer Park. Guatemala put USA to the sword at the end of the first 45 minutes, but some solid goalkeeping from Matt Freese has kept their two-goal lead intact. Will that change in the second half?

Stheven Robles earned himself a yellow for a bad tackle on Berhalter, and Guatemala are struggling to create the attacking pressure that they ended the first half with. Luna gets a yellow as well, but the winger will take it. USMNT are in control at the moment.

A great cross from Freeman deep into the box, and Agyemang rose the highest to get an accurate header. Navarro did exceedingly well to push it over the top bar, and the resulting corner is cleared by Guatemala, but Santis loses the ball near the half-way line.

Agyemang did well to hold off the pressure from Pinto, then accelerated to get ahead of the defender. The attacker had a shot from the edge of the goal, but a terrific sliding tackle from substitute Pinto kept the danger out.

USA 2-0 GUA (68’)

USMNT are making a double change, with goalscorer Luna and Adams coming off. John Tolkin and Jack McGlynn are brought on in their place. With White Shirts trying to flood the USA half, albeit not with much success, Pochettino is likely to shake up the formation.

USA 2-0 GUA (78’)

A good linkup between the substitute pair of Ordonez and Escobar sees the latter – born in the USA, mind you – shoot from the centre of the box, beating Freese. Guatemala are well and truly back into the game!

USA 2-1 GUA (80’)

Four minutes of injury time added on by the fourth official, and it’s plenty of time for Guatemala to get the equaliser, and the players are pushing hard for that.

USA 2-1 GUA (90’)

It’s all over at Energizer Park, and USA has somehow survived the Guatemalan onslaught to book their place in the Gold Cup finals. It was not perfect from the Stars and Stripes, but Pochettino won’t find, as he is through to the finale!
