Lewis Hamilton was "massively frustrated" after his early exit in the Belgian Grand Prix sprint qualifying on Friday.
The seven-time world champion will start the sprint race at Spa on Saturday from 18th on the grid after he spun off the track during his final lap in the first stage of qualifying.
Hamilton expressed his desire to help Ferrari win their first constructors' championship since 2008 earlier in the week, refusing to be the next "amazing driver" not to deliver success for the Italian team.
However, the British driver was not as optimistic after his sprint qualifying session.
"I spun. The first time I think in my career [due to a rear lock]," Hamilton told Sky Sports. "[The car was] Not great. There's not really a lot to say.
"Tomorrow's a new day, obviously I'm massively frustrated.
"A lot of work has gone in, and to be there is not really great, so hopefully tomorrow will be better."
Things did not go much better for Hamilton's former team-mate George Russell after the Mercedes driver finished 13th.
Russell managed to go fifth-fastest in the first session but believes his car may have been damaged after team-mate Kimi Antonelli, who will start from the back of the grid, brought gravel onto the track following his spin.
Russell said: "We've had the pace all day. In Q1 I ran over all of that gravel when Kimi went off. For the rest of that lap, it felt terrible, the lap after it felt terrible, and then my SQ2 lap felt terrible.
"We saw some damage on the car. We need to see if that's the reason because obviously it's a big shock to be out in Q2, and obviously the gap was so big. I'm sure there's a reason for it.
"Our attention now turns to tomorrow. We will hopefully be able to show more of the pace that we saw in FP1.
"Whilst scoring points in the sprint will be difficult, we know the most important parts of the weekend are still to come with qualifying and the grand prix itself. We will be working hard to put in a performance more representative of ourselves then."
Antonelli added: "It was a shame to have our sprint qualifying session go the way it did. The car was good in FP1 and in the first half of my first lap in SQ1, it was feeling even better.
"Unfortunately, I got a little bit greedy on the throttle at turn 14 and had a spin through the gravel. I picked up damage from that and, despite trying my best on my second lap, the performance wasn't there in the car to do anymore than we saw.
"It is a shame as we had the potential for a lot more today. It was a mistake from my side but now we will focus on getting the car in a good place for tomorrow's qualifying session."
