Scottie Scheffler felt "at peace" as he stormed towards his triumph at The Open on Sunday.

Scheffler went into the final round leading by four strokes, and the world number one maintained that lead all the way through to the end.

A double-bogey on the eighth was the only blemish on an otherwise pristine scorecard for the American, who became just the fourth player to win the Masters, the PGA Championship and The Open prior to turning 30.

Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player are the other players to have achieved the feat.

Scheffler, though, never let the pressure get to him.

"I felt a good amount of peace today, was in control with how I was playing, felt comfortable with my game," the 29-year-old told Sky Sports.

"We bounced back quickly from the hiccup at eight [a double bogey] with a birdie at nine.

"This game is a battle every day and this week I did a good job hanging in there mentally."

Scheffler has now won four major titles, and the only such tournament he is yet to win is the U.S. Open.

"It is a pretty special feeling, it was a tough week, I battled hard. I played some really good golf and I'm fortunate to be holding the trophy," Scheffler added.

"I used to wake up early to watch this tournament on TV, hoping and dreaming that I would get a chance to play in it.

"To be here with the trophy, it is hard to put into words.

"It's a pretty special feeling to walk up that 18th knowing the tournament is in hand. It's a cool feeling.

"You have seen that walk before, it's tough to describe what it feels like. A lot of gratitude.

"I've worked my whole life to win this, or even just play it. It's hard to put into words."
