The ongoing Anderson-Trophy series between visiting India and England continues to produce unforgettable moments on and off the field. One such moment played out on Day 4 of the fourth India vs England Test at Old Trafford, Manchester Saturday (July 26, 2025), and it happened between former players -- Nasser Hussain and Dinesh Karthik.

Armed with the gift of gab, former England captain Nasser Hussain took a dig at Dinesh Karthik as the retired India wicketkeeper apparently forgot to pick up the microphone while analysing the match during the Tea break.

“Dinesh Karthik, it’s been a long day and you’re new to this commentary gig. But I’d say your microphone is equally important, Hussain said. The 57-year-old then directed towards his former England team-mate Michael Atherton, saying this "happens to the best. Atherton once tried to commentate using a coffee cup."

In the lead-up to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 final, Hussain and Atherton had trolled Karthik on a Sky Sports Cricket Podcast, suggesting that it would be “unbearable” if Royal Challengers Bengaluru went on to win the world's biggest T20 cricket league.

The English pair joked that Karthik would wear the success “like a badge”, drawing parallels to Chelsea legend John Terry, who famously wore a full kit to celebrate their UEFA Champions League 2012 win despite not playing in the final. Karthik had the last laugh, though, as RCB ended their title drought with a final win against Punjab Kings.

But Shubman Gill and KL Rahul scored unbeaten fifties as India fought back to reach 174/2 at stumps. Gill (78 not out) and Rahul (87 not out) faced 373 deliveries in a resolute third-wicket stand, a period in which England captain Ben Stokes, who scored his 14th Test hundred, opted himself out of bowling.
