A fan attending the fourth Test match between India and England at the Old Trafford in Manchester was asked to cover the Pakistan jersey that he was wearing. Lancashire have started an investigation into the matter that has been recorded on camera.
As per report, a man named Farooq Nazar was asked to cover the Pakistan jersey by a jacket. Nazar was wearing Pakistan's green-coloured limited over jersey.
In the video, a security guard could be seen telling Nazar to cover his shirt before a Steward too joined in with the same request. "I've been asked by control if you can cover that shirt up, please," the guard says.
Nazar and the security staff argue for a while as he refused to cover up the jersey. He was then asked to come outside the stands to sort the issue out. However, reports state that he chose to leave the stadium.
"We are aware of the incident referenced and are taking steps to understand the facts and context surrounding the matter fully," a Lancashire spokesperson said.
Relations between the countries were soured further after a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam resulted in death of 26 people. The gruesome killings even led to a brief military showdown between the old foes. However, cricketing ties between the two nations are likely to resume in the Asia Cup 2025 that is to be played in September.
