How are ranks decided in TNEA
The TNEA 2025 merit list is prepared based on total scaled marks of 200, with marks being normalized across different boards to ensure fairness. The ranking system follows this weightage distribution:
Mathematics: 100 marks (maximum weightage)
Physics: 50 marks
Chemistry: 50 marks
Normalization Process: To ensure fairness across different educational boards, TNEA employs a normalisation method. For example, if the highest mark in Physics for Tamil Nadu State Board is 100 and for another board is 90, both are considered equal to 100. A student scoring 60 marks when the board maximum is 90 would have their score normalized to 66.66 using the formula: (100 X 60)/90 = 66.66%.
For candidates from national boards like CBSE and ICSE, the highest marks obtained at the national level are considered for normalization. In cases where marks are unavailable before rank preparation, the maximum marks are considered as 100%.
TNEA Counselling Process
The TNEA 2025 counselling process is conducted entirely online and comprises multiple rounds to ensure fair seat allocation. The counselling schedule for 2025 has been released with the following key dates:

Who conducts TNEA Counselling?
The TNEA counselling is conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE), Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Previously, Anna University conducted the TNEA counselling, but the responsibility has been transferred to DoTE to ensure transparency and streamlined processes.
DoTE operates under the administrative control of the Department of Technical Education, Training and Skill Development, Government of Tamil Nadu. The counselling process is managed through the official portal tneaonline.org, which serves as the single-window system for all TNEA-related activities.
The authority has established 110 TNEA Facilitation Centres (TFCs) across Tamil Nadu to assist candidates with document verification, technical support, grievance redressal, and fee payment processes. These TFCs ensure that candidates from all regions have access to necessary support services during the counselling process.
