Meenakshi Ganesan has taken charge as Deputy Director General (DDG) of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Southern Regional Office, in Chennai. She is the first woman appointed to this position in the southern region, according to a press release issued on Monday.

The Southern Regional Office covers operations in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, the Union Territory of Puducherry, and the island territories of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, and Goa.

Ganesan has been with BIS for more than three decades and has previously held posts in New Delhi, Coimbatore, Kochi and Hyderabad. Prior to this appointment, she was head of the BIS Southern Regional Laboratory in Chennai.

Her recent engagements included the BIS "Manak Manthan" programme on transformer testing and participation in the launch of a textile testing laboratory in Hyderabad earlier this year.
