The Balasore student who tried to self-immolate died from her wounds on Monday, days after fighting for her life.

The patient was transferred from the Balasore District Headquarters Hospital on July 12 and admitted to the intensive care unit at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, according to the Department of Burn Center.

In response to her passing, Odisha Chief Minister Charan Manjhi has promised to prosecute those responsible.

"The news of the female Fakir Mohan Autonomous College student's passing saddens me greatly. The victim's life could not be saved, even though the government fulfilled all of its obligations and the skilled medical staff worked nonstop. The BJP politician wrote on X, "I pray for her deceased soul's ultimate rest and implore Lord Jagannath to provide her family the strength to bear this devastating loss."

Due to the college authorities' apparent negligence in a sexual harassment issue, the 20-year-old student allegedly burned herself on fire.

The student alleged she had been harassed by a senior professor at the college, and no action had been taken against him.

“They had two to four complaints against the accused professor, and the college authorities asked me to wait for the internal committee report. My demand is that the culprit should be given the harshest punishment,” the father of the now-deceased student told news agency ANI.
