Three Militants Arrested In Manipur In Weekend Operation

Police forces conducted operations in Imphal West and East districts, arresting insurgents involved in extortion; a bomb safely defused in Bishnupur district.

Security forces arrested three militants belonging to different banned groups in a series of operations across Manipur’s Imphal West and East districts, police announced in a statement on Monday, 30 June 2025.

According to PTI, in an operation conducted on Sunday, an insurgent from the banned People’s Liberation Army (PLA) was arrested in Lamdeng Awang Leikai, Imphal West district. The individual, identified as Yumnam Premkumar Singh, 31, was allegedly involved in extorting elected representatives, including panchayat pradhans and members as well as private and government schools in the district.

A day earlier, on Saturday, security forces arrested an active group of the banned People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (Progressive) or PREPAK (Pro) outfit from the Heirangoithong area of Imphal West. He has been identified as Kangabam Raju Singh, 42.

In a separate operation in Imphal East, a militant from the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP-Noyon/MFL faction), identified as Manoharmayum Kabichandra Sharma alias Rajo, 28, was taken into custody from Nongpok Sanjenbam Khullen.

Meanwhile, a potential tragedy was averted in Bishnupur district on Sunday when a bomb disposal team safely neutralized a 51mm ILLG bomb found planted at Terakhongshangbi Maning Laithel. According to the police statement, splinters were seized from the site for further investigation.
