Shimron Hetmyer slammed his West Indies teammate Fabian Allen for five sixes in an over to set up Guyana Amazon Warriors' four-wicket win over Hobart Hurricanes in the ongoing Global Super League. In a small chase of 126, Hetmyer's 10-ball 39 played a major role for the Warriors who registered a win and qualified for the title clash of the tournament.
Hetmyer, who had a terrible season with Rajasthan Royals in Indian Premier League 2025, turned up for the Warriors in a stunning fashion to kill the game. Despite a small target, Guyana were struggling at 42/3 in nine overs when the left-hander arrived to the crease.
He took a couple of balls in the ninth over to settle down and then launched his attack on Allen in the next over.
The powerful left-hander smashed a six over long on on the first ball and then was helped by Odean Smith who tipped the next ball over the boundary to not just drop a catch but also give another maximum. Hetmyer fired another straight six on the next ball and followed it up with a slog sweep six on the fourth delivery.
Allen avoided the fate of Stuart Broad by giving away a double on the fifth ball but the over was finished by another six, making it a 32-run over. The assault changed the complexion of the game and the Warriors then cruised to victory.
Hetmyer hit one more maximum in the next over of Usama Mir before getting out to the Pakistan leg spinner in the same over.
Global Super League final
The innings turned the game and Guyana won with 21 balls in the kitty withe victory taking them into the final. They will now face defending champions Rangpur Riders in the title clash of Global Super League 2025.
