The World Test Championship (WTC) got underway with the new cycle from June 17 with Bangladesh travelling to take on Sri Lanka in the Test series. Simultaneously, India too begin their WTC 2025-27 journey against England starting with the 1st Test at Headingley from June 20.
The India Test team won't feature old veterans in Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma but will be led by Shubman Gill. Gill was picked as the captain for the five-match series with Rishabh Pant promoted as vice-captain.
Jasprit Bumrah will be tasked to lead India's bowling attack alongside Mohammed Siraj and co. There was no room for Mohammed Shami despite his IPL sojourn. However, all eyes will be on Bumrah whether he plays the whole series or not.
Gill, who has led India in T20Is, will have his task cut out against a formidable opposition in England, under Ben Stokes' leadership.
