India get the game underway, moving right to left on your screen. The early tempo is sharp, both sides feeling each other out. In terms of experience, there’s barely anything between them, India average 80 caps per player, Argentina slightly ahead at 85. It’s an even playing field, and this could go either way.

India look to inject some pace into the game as they push forward with purpose. A swift move builds up through midfield and it’s Sharmila who drives into the circle, eyes scanning for an opening. But the Argentinian defence stands tall, compact, composed, and ruthless. No way through just yet.

India break with purpose from deep inside their own half, a strong run opens up space as the ball is played through towards the circle. It takes an unlucky bounce and rolls out harmlessly. The hooter follows soon after. First quarter ends goalless. Chances have been limited, but the energy is there, India look hungry to make an impact tonight.

It’s a scorcher in London, 34.5°C on the clock, and that’s no typo. The second quarter is underway, and conditions are brutal. But neither side is backing down. The heat’s up, literally and figuratively, and both teams look ready to dig deep and fight for control.

India line up for a penalty corner, looking to break the deadlock. The drag flick is on target, but Argentina’s first rusher charges out with lightning reflexes and gets in the way. The ball catches a defender on its way through, and the umpire points straight back to the spot, another PC for India.

Five minutes left in the second quarter, and the pressure is starting to build.

Argentina work their way deep into Indian territory, turning the screws with sustained pressure. The ball bobbles around in a crowded circle, and India struggle to get it clear. The umpire blows for a penalty corner.

Agustina Gorzelany steps up with intent and delivers a thunderous drag flick, low, driven, and perfectly placed to the left of the Indian keeper. No chance there. Argentina strike with their very first PC and grab the lead.

That’s half-time in London, and it’s Argentina who head into the break with their noses in front. The difference? A single, blistering drag flick from Agustina Gorzelany late in the second quarter, their only real chance, and they made it count.

India, though, will feel hard done by. They’ve been the more aggressive side, more circle entries, more penalty corners, more intent. But none of it has translated into a goal. The finishing touch is still missing, and they’ll know they’ve let opportunities slip.

In punishing heat and against a disciplined defence, the effort has been there from the Indians. They’re behind, yes, but this one is far from over.

GOAL! Agustina Gorzelany is at it again. Another penalty corner, another clinical finish, this time drilled low and straight through the keeper’s legs. That’s her second of the night, and Argentina double their lead in style.

India come out firing in the final quarter. They push high, swarm the final third, and enter the circle with urgency. A reverse hit is attempted, but it’s miscued and sails out of bounds. No let-up though, the high press pays off as India win the ball back almost instantly.

Navneet Kaur picks it up on the edge of the circle, takes off on a dazzling run. She glides past one defender, skips past another, and fires a shot across the face of goal, low and to the keeper’s left. It’s inch-perfect. India pull one back in style, and Navneet lights up the game with a brilliant solo goal. Game on.

Q4 - IND 1 - 2 ARG

Relentless pressure from India, and this time it’s Deepika turning up the heat on the right flank. She charges down the wing, muscles her way into the circle, and forces a foot, penalty corner to India. Big moment.

She steps up to take it herself, eyes locked in. The drag flick is clean, powerful, and rockets past the keeper to the right. No stopping that one. Deepika delivers when it matters most. India are level, with four minutes still to play. What a comeback this is turning into.

The hooter sounds and India huddle up, a wave of relief and belief washing over the team. There’s applause in the camp, and rightly so. After trailing by two goals, India clawed their way back with grit, urgency, and a fearless final quarter.

This 2–2 draw not only halts a three-match losing streak but also earns India their first points of the European leg. They’ve fought hard, matched Argentina blow for blow, and now they head into the shootout with momentum on their side.

Can they finish the job from here?

Argentina win the shootout 2–0.

India fought back from two goals down to draw 2–2 with Argentina in London, but lost 0–2 in the shootout, missing out on the bonus point in the FIH Pro League. Navneet Kaur and Deepika cancelled out Agustina Gorzelany’s brace, but India’s poor penalty corner conversion and missed chances in the shootout proved costly.

Despite the result, India will take confidence from earning their first point on the European leg.
