India's nine-year-old chess player Aarit Kapil on Tuesday came ever-so closer to defeating current world No.1 chess player Magnus Carlsen in an online blitz game during the Early Titled Tuesday competition on Chess.com.
Hailing from Delhi, Aarit held on to the top position against Carlsen before time constraint forced the young Indian prodigy to settle for a draw after 49 draws.
Speaking of Aarit, the youngster holds the title of Candidate Master, which is awarded to FIDE chess players for having a classical rating of 2200 or have done well at continental or national events. As of now, Aarit Kapil has a FIDE rating of 2078.
Who Is Aarit Kapil?
Aarit Kapil, 9, hails from New Delhi's Mayur Vihar and is currently pursuing his education at Somerville School. He started playing chess at mere age of 4 and trains five to six hours daily under the guidance of International Master Vishal Sareen.
Last year, Aarit became the youngest and third youngest in the world to defeat a GM in a classical Chess match.
Speaking of Aarit's draw against Carlsen was the fact that he played the match from a hotel room in Georgia, wherein he is currently taking part at the Under-10 World Chess Championship.
The Titled Tuesday tourney is open to players who hold FIDE titles, including the likes of Grandmaster, International Master, FIDE Master and Candidate Master.
