Mining Engineers' Association Of India – Ahmedabad Chapter Commemorates Its Foundation Day Followed By Annual General Meeting

The MEAI Ahmedabad Chapter celebrated Foundation Day and held its AGM on June 14, bringing together experts to discuss India's evolving mining and energy landscape, critical minerals, ESG, and sector innovations.

The Ahmedabad Chapter of the Mining Engineers’ Association of India (MEAI) commemorated its Foundation Day programme followed by Annual General Meeting today in Ahmedabad on 14th June. The programme brought together professionals, policy leaders, and sector experts to engage in meaningful dialogue around the evolving mining and energy landscape of the country.

The day commenced with the B. K. Antia Memorial Lecture, delivered by Shri Debasish Nanda, Former Director – Business Development, Coal India Ltd., on the theme “Emerging Energy Landscape: A Perspective.” In his address, Shri Nanda reflected on the global realignment of energy priorities and emphasised the strategic imperative for India’s mining sector to play a central role in securing critical resources and enabling a balanced energy transition.

The technical session that followed offered insights into key national initiatives and sectoral innovations. Director technical from the Ministry of Coal, Director Ministry of Mines, and leading institutions shared perspectives on areas such as underground coal gasification, National Critical Mineral Mission (NCMM), Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) imperatives, and the role of digitalisation in mining operations. The sessions provided a platform to exchange ideas, strengthen institutional linkages, and align industry efforts with national development objectives

The occasion was further dignified by the presence of Shri S. N. Mathur, President, MEAI, along with Shri Swagat Ray, Chairman – Ahmedabad Chapter, Shri Dhananjay Kumar, Vice Chairman – I, Ahmedabad Chapter and Mrs. Gunjan Pandey, Secretary – Ahmedabad Chapter. The Annual General Meeting of the Chapter was also convened in the evening, witnessing the active participation of its eminent members.

The occasion served not only as a knowledge-sharing forum but also as a reaffirmation of MEAI Ahmedabad Chapter’s role in contributing to India's mineral self-reliance and sustainable sectoral growth.
