Wimbledon 2025: Benjamin Bonzi Knocks Out Daniil Medvedev In First Round

Ninth seed Daniil Medvedev expressed his frustration by smashing his rackets after suffering a surprising first-round defeat at Wimbledon to French player Benjamin Bonzi. Medvedev, who reached the semi-finals in the previous year, lost the match with scores of 7-6 (2), 3-6, 7-6 (3), 6-2 in just over three hours. At the end of the match, he angrily hit his rackets against his chair and bag while Bonzi celebrated the biggest victory of his career. This defeat marks Medvedev's second consecutive first-round exit in a Grand Slam, following his loss at Roland Garros to Cameron Norrie. However, the former US Open champion is looking to his recent success at Halle for reassurance.
